Body in bath woman jailed for nine years

A 30-year-old Birmingham woman has been jailed for nine years for killing another woman.

Anna Somers pleaded guilty to manslaughter at a hearing last month following the death of Audrey Meadley in Edgbaston.

The 49-year-old was found dead with head injuries in a bath at her home in Lenchs Green, in November 2010.

Somers, of Holyhead Road, Handsworth, was sentenced at Birmingham Crown Court on Monday.

'Tragic and difficult'

Police said Ms Meadley was last seen alive at her home by Ms Somers and a health worker five days before she was found dead.

Officers forced entry to her home after concerns were raised she had not been seen during those five days.

Somers was arrested by investigating officers the following day.

Investigating officer Glenn Moss said: "We acknowledge and welcome today's outcome.

"This was a particularly tragic and difficult case and we can only hope that the outcome today helps bring some closure for Audrey's family."
