Birmingham fire crews tackle Quality Hotel gas leak

West Midlands fire crews have been tackling a suspected chlorine gas leak at a Birmingham hotel.

The incident at the Quality Hotel, on Hagley Road in Edgbaston, was reported at about 14:30 BST on Saturday.

Station commander Dean Harris said the gas had been contained in the hotel's plant room and there was no further danger to people in the area.

Seven people were treated by West Midlands Ambulance Service for eye irritations.

Mr Harris said crews were waiting for specialist equipment to confirm that the gas was chlorine.
