Woman injured in Walsall hit and run

A 30-year-old woman suffered serious head injuries when she was hit by a car that failed to stop in the West Midlands.

The incident happened on Bloxwich Lane, near the Churchill Road junction, in Walsall, at about 16:35 GMT on Tuesday.

Police said a "a small hatchback" was believed to have been involved and appealed for further information.

The woman was taken to Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham where she remains in a serious but stable condition.

Sgt Tim Rogers, from West Midlands Police, said: "If anyone sees a small car with front end damage, possibly a broken windscreen, on the street or parked up I'd ask them to contact me.

"Similarly, if any member of the public knows a motorist who returned home last night with fresh damage to their vehicle, or repair centre staff that have received a vehicle with such damage, I'd urge them to get in touch.

"The victim suffered a serious head injury and bleeding on the brain, yet it appears the driver didn't even slow down, let alone stop, to check if the person they'd collided with was OK."
