Van driver arrested after cyclist dies in Wolverhampton

A van driver has been arrested following an accident in Wolverhampton in which a cyclist died.

Staffordshire Police said a 47-year-old woman had died following the accident, which happened in Blackhalve Lane, Essington, at 07:15 GMT.

A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokeswoman said: "Nothing could be done to save the woman and she was confirmed dead at the scene."

The road remained closed for four hours while police investigated the crash.

The police said a 40-year-old man from Walsall had been arrested at the scene.
