Thousands evacuated from Birmingham New Street station

Thousands of people had to be evacuated from Birmingham New Street after a fire alarm was "maliciously" set off, British Transport Police (BTP) said.

Officers from West Midlands Police and BTP were forced to evacuate trains and people in the station area at 19:54 GMT on Wednesday.

The police said no-one was injured and that passengers and staff were allowed back into the station at 20.32 GMT.
