Man dies after car hits fence in Birmingham

A man has died after the car he was travelling in left the road and hit a fence in Birmingham.

West Midlands Ambulance Service said it was called to the junction of the Coventry Road and Golden Hillock Road at 12:15 GMT on Saturday.

Members of the public provided CPR until paramedics arrived.

The ambulance service said paramedics and members of the public managed to free the man from the car but he later died in hospital.

A spokeswoman said: "The man was quickly transferred by land ambulance on blue lights to Heartlands Hospital.

"On route to hospital the crew continued to give the patient vital emergency treatment in an effort to restart his heart.

"Hospital medics continued advanced life support for a period but sadly nothing could be done to save the man and he was later confirmed dead."
