Michael Wathen from Halesowen jailed for murder of wife

A 67-year-old man from the West Midlands has been given a life sentence for murdering his wife.

Michael Wathen, of Brier Mill Road, Halesowen, will serve a minimum of 12 years for strangling Margaret Wathen, 63, at their home earlier this year.

Wathen had denied murdering his wife after she said she would leave him.

Speaking after the trial at Wolverhampton Crown Court, Det Sgt Harry May said: "There are no winners in this case."

Mr May, from West Midlands Police CID, added: "The Wathen family have tragically lost their mother and sister and they have now lost their father for many years to come."
