Man injured in lift shaft fall in Birmingham

A lift engineer suffered a serious head injury when he fell down a lift shaft in a Birmingham apartment block.

West Midlands Ambulance Service was called to the residential building in Paradise Street just before 12:30 GMT.

A spokesman said: "Crews found a man in his 20s had fallen 10 to 15ft on to a metal grid in an access shaft next to the main lift.

"The man was treated at the scene for a serious head injury together with arm, pelvic and chest pains."

He added the man was taken to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, in Birmingham, for further assessment and treatment.
