Police investigating the murder of a man at a Birmingham hostel have made an arrest.

Bakhitar Ahmad Kheder Mirawdali, 40, was found by a member of staff at the hostel in Soho Road, Handsworth on Thursday, 2 February.

West Midlands Police said a 48-year-old was arrested in the Winson Green area on Wednesday.

Det Insp Buck Rogers said the death of Mr Mirawdali, an Iraqi, was a "targeted attack".

"We are keen to speak with anyone who may have seen him in the days leading up to his death," he said.

Police said tests showed Mr Mirawdali died as a result of a wound to his neck and believe his body lay undiscovered for two days.

He had been granted political asylum and had lived in the UK for a number of years, but was planning to return to Iraq to get married.

Police said patrols in the area have been increased to reassure concerned members of the Kurdish community.
