A 48-year-old man has been charged with murder after an Iraqi man was found dead at a Birmingham hostel.

Bakhitar Ahmad Kheder Mirawdali, 40, was found by a member of staff at the hostel in Soho Road, Handsworth on Thursday 2 February.

Police said tests showed Mr Mirawdali died as a result of a wound to his neck and believe his body lay undiscovered for two days.

West Midlands Police arrested the man in the Winson Green area on Wednesday.

He is due to appear at Birmingham Magistrates' Court on Saturday.

Mr Mirawdali had been granted political asylum and had lived in the UK for a number of years, but was planning to return to Iraq to get married.
