Man's fall injuries prompt arrests in Birmingham

Two men have been arrested after another man was found with life-threatening injuries near a Birmingham gym.

A 38-year-old man was discovered under a two-storey walkway on Bristol Road South at about 20:00 BST on Monday.

He remains in a critical condition, after suffering serious head and spinal injuries in a suspected fall, police said.

A man, 48, has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder.

A 21-year-old man was also arrested on Monday night on suspicion of wounding.

Det Insp Ian Ingram, from West Midlands Police, said: "We remain open minded as to what happen last night on the stairs, but our initial inquiries suggest that there was some sort of altercation prior to the victim falling from the walkway."

He appealed to anyone with information about the incident to come forward.

Forensic investigators have conducted tests at the scene and CCTV has also been seized, he added.
