Man dies after being hit by bus in Erdington

A 72-year man died when he was hit by a double-decker bus in Birmingham.

Emergency crews were called to Witton Lodge Road, Erdington, at about 14:30 BST on Sunday.

The man suffered multiple injuries and was in cardiac arrest after the incident, an ambulance service spokesman said.

Bystanders and a police community support officer had already begun cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) on the man when crews arrived.

The spokeswoman added: "Crews and the medics worked as a team to administer advanced life support to the man.

"Unfortunately, despite their best efforts, nothing could be done to save the man and he was confirmed dead on scene."

West Midlands Police said the road was closed until about 19:40.
