Solihull Council takes tax payments two days early

Solihull Council has taken direct debit payments for council tax and business rates early due to "human error".

The Conservative-run council usually requests the payments on 1 December, but this month they were leaving accounts on Thursday 29 November.

The council apologised and said in a statement: "Unfortunately this month we have requested them early."

One complainant on Twitter said it meant two payments had left her account within one month.

The error is expected to cause concern for those residents who are paid on the last or first day of each month.

The council would not take a further payment on 1 December, it added.

The local authority said it had has received three complaints about the error which happened when someone failed to properly check a date.

"An error has occurred once before in the past approximately seven years ago where the payment was requested one day early due to an IT error," a spokeswoman said.
