A police operation to catch drink drivers in the West Midlands has been broadcast live online.

West Midlands Police force launched its Christmas drink drive campaign, as part of a national crackdown, on Friday.

Ch Insp Kerry Blakeman said the force hoped to show people the consequences of drink driving and what to expect if they are stopped by police.

The operation was broadcast live and is available on the force website.

Ch Insp Blakeman has also answered questions on Twitter.

West Midlands Police said fatal drink drive crashes across the UK rose by 12% in 2011, the first increase since 2002.

It said the 2012 Christmas campaign would particularly target people driving the morning after consuming alcohol, as well as drivers under the age of 25.
