Walsall 'thieves' caught in snowy Express & Star photo
A newspaper photographer may have unintentionally captured the moment thieves stole workmen's equipment.
The Express & Star photographer took the picture of what he thought were two workmen in Walsall's Broadway North in the snow earlier this month.
West Midlands Police said the owner of the £3,500 hydraulic breaker was "staggered" by the pictures in the newspaper.
Officers released the photograph in the hope that the men would be recognised.
'Battling the elements'
Mark Drew, executive editor of the Express & Star, said the photographer had been out early, before 06:00 GMT, looking for pictures in the snow and it was "pure coincidence" that he photographed the men.
The photo appeared in the newspaper with the caption "Workmen struggle in the snow".
Mr Drew added: "They appeared to be genuine workmen battling against the elements."
The equipment, owned by Jordan Surfacing, is used for the demolition of concrete.
The owners said the breaker was stolen from Broadway North, at the junction with Gillity Avenue, between 9 and 11 February.
