Kings Norton rooftop stand-off ends with arrest
A man wanted in connection with a burglary has been arrested after a three-hour rooftop stand-off with police.
After running from a house in Kings Norton, Birmingham, the man climbed on a roof at an industrial unit and threw tiles and metal poles at officers.
Twenty officers surrounded the building and he was talked down by negotiators at about 03:00 BST, police said.
The man, 23, was arrested in connection with a burglary in Erdington.
Officers had gone to a house in Popes Lane in Kings Norton at 23:15 GMT on Monday to arrest the man.
He ran off through back gardens and along a railway track before climbing onto the roof of a building in Eckersall Road.
Police used the force helicopter to track his movements.
Ch Insp Lee Wharmby, said: "Sometimes criminals use extreme measures to avoid capture and what happened overnight demonstrates the tenacity and perseverance of officers to ensure we catch offenders and keep our streets safe.
"I apologise for any noise nuisance from the helicopter but it was necessary to ensure the safety of all those involved in this operation,
"I thank the cooperation of local businesses in assisting in bringing this incident to a safe conclusion."
