Homeless man, 74, kicked and punched in Sheldon

A 74-year-old homeless man was kicked and punched for 15 minutes by a robber who stole his bag in Birmingham.

The victim had been asleep in the doorway of a shop at the Wells Green Retail Park in Sheldon when he was attacked at about 04:45 BST.

Police said the man, a "much-loved member of the community", was left with a black eye and an injuries to his nose and lip.

A 40-year-old man was arrested nearby on suspicion of robbery.

Det Con Andy Edwards said he particularly wanted to trace a woman who was seen at a nearby bus stop at the time of the attack.

He added: "It's sickening that someone would use such extreme violence to commit a robbery on such a vulnerable member of society."
