Firefighters were called to a fire in a derelict three-storey building in Birmingham's Jewellery Quarter.

Two floors of the property in Spencer Street, Hockley, were on fire, along with the roof.

Eight crews were called to the blaze at around 06:00 BST. Nobody has been injured.

Up to 35 firefighters were at the scene at its peak. The road was closed causing lengthy tailbacks all morning, and traffic was diverted.

A spokesman for the service said: "The fire is now under control. It has affected two properties. Fire crews will remain in Spencer Street for some time damping down the fire, but it has been controlled."

The road re-opened to traffic shortly after midday.
