Small Heath crash leaves one woman dead and two injured

One woman died and two others were injured when a car left the road and crashed into a group of pedestrians and a wall.

The crash happened in Heybarnes Road in Small Heath, Birmingham, at 12:50 BST, West Midlands Ambulance Service said.

Paramedics fought to save the woman but she was confirmed dead shortly afterwards.

A 21-year-old man was arrested at the scene on suspicion of dangerous driving, West Midlands Police said.

'Best efforts'

A four-year-old boy, two-year-old boy and a woman in her 20s were also taken to hospital.

The four-year-old is believed to have broken his pelvis and leg while the woman suffered facial injuries.

She was taken to Heartlands Hospital along with the two-year-old boy, who had suffered no apparent injuries.

The male driver of the car was uninjured in the crash.

The 21-year-old man, from Small Heath, was bailed by police pending further enquiries, a force spokesman confirmed.
