Birmingham city centre crash leaves pedestrian seriously hurt
A man was seriously hurt when he was hit by a car on the main route through Birmingham city centre.
The pedestrian was struck on the A38 Great Charles Street Queensway near Newhall Street at about 06:30 GMT, closing the road above the tunnels in both directions.
Police said the man, believed to be in his 20s, was taken to hospital and is being treated for serious injuries.
The road had reopened by 08:45, police confirmed.
Additional lanes were opened on the Aston Expressway earlier than usual in an attempt to ease congestion, but heavy traffic built up at Paradise Circus.
