Birmingham tower block fire leads to traffic delays
Motorists in Birmingham city centre have been hit by long delays after a fire at a block of flats.
The blaze on the 12th floor of the 14-storey block in Masshouse Lane is believed to have been started deliberately.
Police said a man had been detained under the Mental Health Act.
Network West Midlands briefly diverted some bus routes and delays around Moor Street Queensway lasted for several hours due to the road's closure.
By late afternoon all normal bus routes were resumed.
Nobody was hurt in the fire. It caused severe smoke damage to the lounge and bedroom of the flat and also damaged five other flats in the building.
