Murder arrest after Walsall fire death

A woman has been arrested on suspicion of murder after a man died in a house fire on Christmas Day.

It started at a property on South Street Gardens, in Caldmore, Walsall, shortly before 17:30 GMT.

The 58-year-old victim has not yet been formally identified and a post-mortem examination is due to take place.

West Midlands Police said a 57-year-old woman was arrested late on 25 December and is being questioned on suspicion of murder.

Det Insp Gary Plant, who is leading the inquiry, said: "We are keen to speak to anyone with information which may help our investigation.

"The man's family are being informed and are being supported by specially trained officers at this difficult time."

The force said officers were patrolling the area surround South Street Gardens to offer reassurance to those in the area.
