Murder probe after Northfield stabbing

A murder inquiry has begun after a man who was stabbed in Birmingham in November died in hospital.

Barry Wilkins, 71, was discovered at a flat in Norrington Road, Northfield, on 24 November with injuries to his stomach, back and shoulder.

He died in hospital on New Year's Eve.

A police spokesman said Susan Hughes, 47, of Linley Grove, Kings Heath, had already appeared before magistrates charged with wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.

She was remanded in custody and will appear at Birmingham Crown Court on 4 March.

A post-mortem examination is due to take place on Friday.
