Man charged with plotting to murder ex-wife

A man has been charged with attempting to hire a hit-man to murder his ex-wife in the US, according to the local attorney's office.

William John Wallace, 33, originally from Walsall, West Midlands, but now living in California, is accused of trying to have her killed over Christmas while he was in the UK.

Prosecutors said it followed a custody dispute over their daughter.

Mr Wallace is due back in court in Orange County, California, on Tuesday.

He faces one charge of premeditated attempted murder and two of solicitation to commit murder.

Orange County District Attorney's Office alleges he approached a private investigator in September in a bid to track down a hit-man, but the investigator immediately contacted local police.

Prosecutors said Mr Wallace could face 15 years to life in prison if convicted.
