Road closed after 'grenade' found in Stourbridge

Bomb disposal experts from West Midlands Police were called after a suspected grenade was found in a brook.

Officers were called to the Ludgebridge Brook, off Wollescote Road, Stoubridge, just before 11:00 BST on Sunday.

Wollescote Road was closed and drivers were urged to avoid the area.

The road was eventually reopened at 14:00 BST after the suspect item was revealed to be a car's suspension cylinder, the force said.

Sgt Phil Jones said they had to be cautious due to the suspicious nature of the item.

The future of this historic building is uncertain. Yesterday when I was here I was told it would have to be demolished.

It's blackened out and destroyed, but thankfully firefighters were able to contain the blaze and stop it spreading. Structural engineers have been on site in the past 24 hours and are more positive about its future.
