Girl, 6, hit by car with mother in West Bromwich dies

A six-year-old girl has died from her injuries after she and her mother were hit by a car on a road in West Bromwich.

West Midlands Police said a woman in her 30s and her daughter were involved in the collision on Lyng Lane at about 17:15 BST on Thursday.

Both were taken to hospital where the girl later died. The woman's injuries are not believed to be serious.

Police said the driver of a Land Rover was "assisting their investigation".

Sgt Paul Hughes said this was "a tragic event" and police were following up "a number of inquiries".

"It is important that we piece together the events leading up to the collision and I would appeal directly to anyone with any information, no matter how small it may seem, to contact myself or any member of my team," he said.

Specialist officers are working with the family, a force spokesman added.
