More than 40 firefighters have tackled a blaze at a scrap metal firm in Wolverhampton.

About 100 tonnes of scrap metal was on fire after the blaze broke out at Fletcher Metals on Hickman Avenue in the Eastfield area at about 12:20 BST.

The cause of the blaze, which was brought under control within one-and-a-half hours, was being investigated, the fire service said.

Eyewitnesses reported thick smoke across the city.

Earlier the fire service advised people in the Monmore Green and Horseley Fields areas to stay indoors and close their windows.
