Murder probe over body in Wolverhampton street

A murder investigation has been started after a man's body was found in a Wolverhampton street.

A member of the public alerted officers to the body in Treynham Close in the Stowlawn area of the city at about 21:30 BST on Saturday.

It is not known how the man died, said Det Insp Warren Hines, of West Midlands Police.

He urged a man who went the help the murder victim but left before police arrived to contact the force.

'Great response'

Mr Hines said: "Our inquiry is still in its very early stages and while we are unable to say at this time how the man died, I can confirm that we are treating the death as murder.

"Officers remain at the scene today, which has been cordoned off, and will continue carrying out inquiries in the area to help us establish how the man came to be fatally injured.

"We have already had a great response to our initial inquiries from the local community, but we are keen to hear from anyone who we may not yet have spoken to and who has any information about what happened.

"In particular, we would like to speak to a man who went to the aid of the victim but who unfortunately left the area before officers could speak to him."
