Hundreds of people have attended two rival demonstrations in Birmingham city centre.

About 600 English Defence League supporters protested in Centenary Square while about 300 joined a rival protest in Chamberlain Square.

Ten people were arrested in the city centre for public order related offences, West Midlands Police said.

Local businesses and attractions were open as usual, the force said.

Unite Against Fascism (UAF) and unions were at the counter-demonstration at Chamberlain Square.
