A primary school in Birmingham has been closed following the discovery of an "infestation" of mice.

Leigh Primary School in Washwood Heath will be shut until the end of the week for a "deep clean", according to a statement on the school's website.

The decision was taken on the advice of a pest control firm, it said.

Head teacher Julie Davies said: "We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause but the safety of all pupils is our priority."

The school was granted academy status in January last year.
