A primary school hit by arson is unlikely to open before the half term holiday, the council has said.

The fire broke out at St Alban's Church of England School, in St Alban's Close, Wednesfield, on Thursday night.

The building has smoke and water damage and more than 20 square metres of roofing is likely to need replacing, Wolverhampton City Council said.

Pupils have been moved to three other local schools while the cleaning is carried out and the damage repaired.

Councillor Phil Page said: "We will be working closely with police and the fire service as they investigate the circumstances of the blaze."

The school has 177 pupils, aged from three to 11.
