An unlocked Mercedes that accumulated more than £10,000 in parking tickets after it was abandoned in Birmingham has been removed.

The black car had been at the Broadway Plaza car park, off Five Ways, since at least 2012.

A service record showing a Coventry address was found inside but the owner could not be located.

APCOA, which manages the £13-a-day 1,400-space car park, confirmed the car was removed on Wednesday.

A spokesman said: "We did not move the car initially because the city council has previously taken responsibility for removing vehicles and, unsurprisingly, we believed this was still the case."
