Man denies Pakistan mother-in-law shooting murder

A man has denied murdering his estranged wife's mother in Pakistan.

Tariq Rana, 31, from Wolverhampton, is accused of the murder of his mother-in-law Gulam Asia, who was shot dead on 27 July 2013.

Mrs Asia, 49, was shot several times outside her home in Lahore.

Appearing via video-link at the Old Bailey, Mr Rana was remanded in custody by Mr Justice Singh until a trial set to begin on 22 June. A further hearing was scheduled for 8 May.

Mr Rana's sister Nargus Ahmed, 33, and brother-in-law Adeel Muhammad, 35, from Birmingham, also appeared in court charged with assisting an offender but did not enter pleas.

The couple, who are on bail, are accused of providing Mr Rana with transport and accommodation "with intent to impede arrest" between 27 July and 31 July 2013.
