A man who was arrested on suspicion of preparing to travel to Syria to join Islamic State has been released on bail, police said.

The 18-year-old, from Hodge Hill, Birmingham, was detained on Monday.

He was held on suspicion of preparing for terrorist acts, contrary to section five of the Terrorism Act 2006.

As part of his bail conditions he must live and sleep at a specific address under a curfew and report to the police three times a week, a spokesman said.

The man will be questioned by West Midlands Police again in April.

The arrest was pre-planned and intelligence-led and there was no immediate threat to public safety, police said.
