Man dies after Sutton Coldfield fire engine collision

An 85-year-old man has died after his car was involved in a crash with a fire engine as it responded to an emergency.

West Midlands Fire Service said a vehicle from the Perry Barr station collided with a Vauxhall Zafira at the junction between George Frederick Road and Kingstanding Road in Sutton Coldfield at 09:26 BST on 11 March.

The car driver was taken to hospital but died on 21 April.

West Midlands Police said it was investigating the incident.

A post-mortem is also set to take place to determine the cause of death.

A fire service spokesman said an internal investigation into the incident is ongoing.

The five firefighters who were in the vehicle at the time of the crash were not seriously injured.
