A motorcyclist who died at the scene of a crash despite a police officer's efforts to save him, was "a gift from heaven" said his family.

Patrick Jackson was found by a constable at St Chad's Queensway, Birmingham, close to the junction of Whittall Street on Saturday morning.

CCTV footage is being reviewed to see how the crash happened.

Mr Jackson, 44, from Handsworth was described as "a real husband and father" by his family.

They released a photograph of Mr Jackson with the Kawasaki motorbike he was riding at the time of the crash.

"His presence, smile and laughter will be missed by his family, friends and community. We love him as he loved us," a family statement said.

Pc Chris Ridge said at the time: "There is some suggestion that a second motorbike was travelling in convoy with the deceased's bike.

"While we check CCTV footage to see if that's the case, I'd ask that anyone who was in the area at the time pick up the phone and tell us what they saw."
