A "suspect device" has been found at a West Midlands property, prompting the evacuation of about 12 homes.

A 100m (328ft) cordon has been put in place at Danford Close, Stourbridge, and part of Hagley Road closed.

Officers were called after a box containing the suspect device was found at 12:42 BST, police said.

Ch Insp Paul Ditta said "Specialists will be attending to determine exactly what has been found and ensure it is made safe."

West Midlands Police said the cordon had been put in place as a precaution until the contents of the box could be assessed.

Mr Ditta said: "We are working with Dudley Council to find temporary accommodation for those residents in the affected area and we will also be arranging transport for them if required.

"We would ask people to avoid the area at this time."
