A greyhound track that opened almost 90 years ago is set to be demolished to make way for new homes.

Last month the city council rejected plans to knock down Hall Green Stadium in Birmingham claiming a community facility would be lost.

But now councillors have overturned that decision and the 1927 track will be replaced with 210 homes and a hotel.

More than 2,000 people had signed an online petition by Hall Green MP Roger Godsiff wanting to retain the track.

A counter petition by C.A.G.E.D North West had called for the stadium to be closed over concerns of animal cruelty in the sport. It had more than 7,600 signatures.
