A man is in an induced coma after being punched in a suspected road rage attack in Birmingham.

It followed a minor crash between a car and a van on Gressel Lane, Kitts Green, at about 18:30 BST on Friday.

The 37-year-old car driver is in a critical condition in hospital with serious head injuries.

A 29-year-old man from Solihull has been arrested on suspicion of assault after handing himself in at a police station.

Det Con Katie Lees, of West Midlands Police, said: "This was a vicious attack on a family man who was on his way home to his partner and four-year-old child.

"The road is a really busy road and we are sure that there were lots of people who would have seen what happened and we are appealing for them to come forward."
