Man charged after Birmingham bank worker 'held hostage'

A man has been charged with false imprisonment after a staff member was held hostage at a Birmingham bank, West Midlands Police said.

Police were called to NatWest, Bristol Road South, Northfield on Friday.

David Hempseed, 60, of Northfield, is also charged with possession of an imitation firearm and knife and arson with intent to endanger life.

He was remanded in custody by magistrates to appear at Birmingham Crown Court on 24 March.
