Man seriously hurt and left in Walsall 'hit-and-run'
An elderly man, thought to have been the victim of a hit-and-run incident, is in hospital with "severe injuries".
The incident happened at 11:00 BST on Lichfield Road, Walsall as the man, in his 80s, was crossing the road.
Police are trying to trace a light-coloured convertible Mercedes with a registration number of MJ52 0VM they think was involved in the collision.
The car would have suffered "extensive windscreen damage," a spokesman said.
West Midlands Ambulance Service said the man suffered "very serious injuries to his head, chest and left ankle."
Det Sgt Paul Hughes said his priority was tracing the car believed to have been involved.
"We urge anyone who has any information on the movements of this vehicle before or after the collision to get in touch with us as soon as possible," he said.
"I also want to appeal directly to the driver to do the right thing and come forward."
