Streetly widower targeted by distraction thieves
A widower has been left 'devastated' after thieves stole his late wife's wedding ring.
Colin Bennett, 80, opened his door in Queslett Road East, Streetly, to a man claiming to be a water board official on Wednesday 12 April.
Once inside a second offender raided an upstairs bedroom stealing the ring and thousands of pounds in cash, said West Midlands Police.
Police said they are determined to get these items back to the owner.
Mr Bennett's wife Irene died last year, aged 85. He's begging for the ring to be returned.
"I'm devastated. I lost my wife last year, now I've lost everything else," he said.
A short time after the bogus water board official left the pensioner realised what had happened and called the police.
The man he let into his home is described as white, in his late 20s, wearing a baseball cap, a sleeveless dark colour jacket and grey industrial glasses.
Police have launched an appeal to trace the stolen ring.
