West Midlands policeman stabbed during arrest attempt

A policeman was stabbed in the neck and chest while attempting to arrest a suspect.

The West Midlands officer, aged 26, suffered two stab wounds when he was attacked by a man at an address in Wood End Road, Erdington, Birmingham.

He was taken to hospital for treatment but his injuries were not thought to be life-threatening, a spokesman said.

A 48-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of two counts of causing grievous bodily harm.

The wounded officer was part of a pre-planned arrest operation when he was attacked on Tuesday afternoon.
