Walsall burst pipe led to water 'river'

A householder has spoken of how "a river" of water came towards his house when a water main burst in the road.

Part of Broadway North in Walsall could be closed "for a number of days" after a main burst in the freezing conditions on Wednesday afternoon.

The burst ruptured the road with water getting into around eight properties.

Resident Mike Williams said his garden looked like "an absolute river" and the nearby road was "totally flooded".

"It was going into the hallway so we put towels down and tried to stop it and tried to push the water into the back garden," he said.

South Staffs Water said road diversions were in place as Broadway North will remain closed between Sutton Road and Birmingham Road in both directions for a number of days.

"A team of workers from South Staffs Water is on site and commencing repair. There are no interruptions to supply.

"We apologise for any inconvenience caused," a statement said.
