Festive parking deal for Calderdale shoppers

Shoppers and traders in Calderdale are being offered free or cut-price parking in the weeks leading up to Christmas in an attempt to boost business.

Calderdale Council has decided all council parking places will be free in Halifax on the five Thursdays before Christmas.

And in towns in the area where late night shopping has been agreed, spaces will be free from 1500 GMT.

Pre-paid parking cards worth £20 will be half price from 1 December.

Councillor Barry Collins, who is responsible for economy and environment, said the council wanted to encourage shoppers to the area.

He said: "The pre-Christmas season is vital for local traders.

"Hopefully, these schemes will bring lots of festive shoppers into our towns, just as they did last year."
