Bristol firm applies for historic well licence
A company has applied for a licence to sell water from a well in Bristol.
CHK Holdings has asked the Environment Agency if it can take 15 million litres of water a year from the historic Jacob's Well in Hotwells.
The well, which was used as a Jewish ritual bath 800 years ago, was recently used for a bottled-water operation during the 1980s.
Martin Hughes, who bought the well with two business partners, said he wanted to bring the well back into use.
He added they have to "jump through all sorts of hoops" before it could become a commercial operation.
The well was also used for open-air bathing during Georgian times.
