The closure of two bathroom centres near Bristol has been blamed on the economic downturn.

Administrators Begbies Traynor are due to be formally appointed after Yate and Weston-super-Mare Bathrooms stopped trading a week ago.

They said turnover at the firm had "fallen considerably" recently and this led to the closure.

"We understand a number of customers have paid in advance for goods not yet delivered to them," a statement said.

"Yate Bathrooms has been a victim of the economic downturn."

The administrators added that they will be writing to affected customers soon.

Yate Bathrooms began trading in 1982 and the showroom in Weston was opened several years ago.

It is not clear how many jobs are at a risk following the collapse of the company.
