Crews rescue trapped driver after car hits tree in Bath

A driver in his 20s is in hospital with serious injuries after his car came off a road in Bath, plunged down a ditch and hit a tree.

Fire crews were called to Claverton Down just after 0230 BST on Sunday.

Hydraulic cutting gear was used to remove the roof and a door of the car, to free the trapped man.

An Avon Fire Service spokesman said it was fortunate the vehicle had hit the tree on the passenger side, as it gave rescuers better access to the driver.
