Bristol woods rope swing accident leaves man dead

A man has died falling from a rope swing and landing on his head in Leigh Woods, near Bristol.

Ambulance crews were called to Rownham Hill at 1830 BST following reports of the incident.

"The man fell in to a ravine and was pronounced dead at the scene," a Great Western Ambulance spokeswoman said.

A passer-by, who went to the man's aid, suffered hip and knee injuries when she fell into the ravine herself.

She was taken to the Bristol Royal Infirmary (BRI) for treatment.

Officers from Avon and Somerset Police are at the scene and are investigating the circumstances of the accident.
