Several roads in the centre of Bath were closed to cars on Sunday to make way for a massive cycling event.

It was the second year running that the city had hosted a Sky Ride - a project which aims to get more people using bikes and getting fit.

The event, initiated by Sky and British Cycling, was organised in partnership with Bath and North East Somerset Council (BANES).

More than 6,000 people took part in last year's event in the city.

The council's tourism chief, David Lawrence, said: "So many of us have a bike sitting in the garage but never use them.

"Sky Ride provides the perfect incentive for families who have been seeking motivation to get back on their bikes and become healthier and more active."
